TruthIn is India's first Consumer Product Intelligence Platform that helps users understand packaged food labelsgive personalized nutritional insights based on product scans, and helps users make better decisions, aiming for global release in the near future.

I have interviewed about 15 people in the United States from ages 19 to 70 years old and have also created a survey with a poll of questions.

I have then conducted a Thematic Analysis.

Overview: There were some people who said they don’t consume packaged food that still want to learn more about the food labels, but there were still many people who consume packaged food and do not understand the perplexing food labels.

Many people found the barcode scanner to be very beneficial. Some people wanted this feature to give them a suggestion based on their preferences along with a list of healthier alternatives for each product. Also when they search for a product, it should have a filtered search.

Therefore, I have designed a user-friendly search interface with personalized filters, making it easier for users to find exactly what they need.

Interesting features many people thought should be included were Podcasts and a Knowledge Centre as some of the people I have interviewed said that they listen to podcasts after work and the knowledge centre would be helpful for them to understand about certain terms they don’t understand in the food labels.

All the apps had the same purpose which is having a barcode scanner to learn more about the packaged food labels which is like our goal with TruthIn.

All the apps had a good visual hierarchy, and good color design. Shopwell was good because it gives healthier alternative products for each product that matches your food preferences.

What lacked in these apps was a Knowledge Centre.

Introducing hyperlinked terms for unfamiliar products can facilitate user understanding of packaged food labels, elevating the educational value of the app while simultaneously enhancing user engagement.

Adding rewards and points will enhance the app's appeal, fostering motivation and heightened engagement among users.

Poppins is very comfortable to read and gives a lively feel to the app. The slightly round corners make it playful, thanks to its weights that range from Light to Bold.. Poppins is mainly used in headings in apps such as Airbnb, Netflix, Spotify, Adobe, Uber, etc. TruthIn does the same for the headers which makes it playful.

Reflection

My approach for solving this problem was the classic UX journey: UX Research through interviews and surveys, personas, competitive analysis, user journey map, low fidelity and high fidelity frames, prototype, and feature finalization(still in progress).

When I first worked remotely in the U.S. before moving to Hyderabad, I struggled because the app was only available in India, and I didn't fully grasp its purpose. I spent too much time on user interviews and added unnecessary features. It wasn't until I spent three months working in India that I truly understood the app's goal. I discovered more about the field of UX Design through industry experience.
